We all need help with the little things in life! You don’t need to be behind a computer screen to be a HACKER!!! Life hacker, that is! Below see this week’s Exact Home Team life Hacks & Home Tips.
Hack #1: Garlic Hands
The one part many of us dread about cooking is the smell that lingers on our fingers; garlic or onions can be the worst. We have a simple hack for that! All you need is a stainless-steel spoon(really!). Once you are done chopping the garlic or onions, wash your hands with the spoon under running water (rubbing the flat backside of the spoon against the skin under running water). Voilà, the smell of garlic or onions on your hands is gone!
Hack # 2: Holliday Light Coat Hanger
Tired of dealing with tangled lights from the Holidays? What you will need for this simple trick is just a coat hanger. When you pack up the lights at the end of the season, wrap them around each end of the coat hanger and it will save you time next year and make packing a breeze!
Hack #3: Hanging Pictures
The worst part of hanging pictures on the wall is getting that tiny nail in the wall without hitting your fingers! This simple Hack will keep you from both hitting your fingers and hitting the nail too far deep in the wall. Hold the nail with a clothespin on the long side, close to the wall, and tap the head until the clothespin is against the wall. When the clothespin is flush with the wall, it's the right distance to hang a project, and you've protected your fingers!
Home Tip # 4: Under Cabinet Lighting
Need a little extra light in your day? Under cabinet lights are easier than you than you think these days! You can lighten up closets, pantries and under cabinets at the touch of a finger! These are super easy to find. Go to your local hardware store and find LED Strip lights in the lighting section. There are multiple different types but the easy DIY ones are battery powered.
Home Tip # 5: Swap all regular (incandescent or fluorescent) light bulbs for LED Bulbs!
This will not only lower your power bill in the winter, but it will also brighten up your home! All this simple “Brighten your day” hack needs is LED Lightbulbs(available at your local hardware store). Some cities subsidize the cost of the LED lightbulbs, making it more affordable for home owners to switch, so check with your city.
Hack #6: Wrapping Paper
The worst part about the end of the holidays is making sure that your wrapping paper will make it to next year! This simple hack will allow you to save your wrapping paper and keep it as good as new for the next year. Just save your old toilet paper rolls(!!). When you're done using the wrapping paper, roll it up and slide the old toilet paper roll over it like a rubber band. Voilà, your paper is now secure and easy to pack away for next year.
